  5. Let me first of all, differentiate the so-called self in reality [S(r)]and the so-called self in dreams [S(d)]:-

    (a) S(r) cannot order, instruct, demand or summon S(d) to come up and appear to be there in beingness in a dream (if any) before, during, and after sleep.

    (b) If it is a dreamless night during sleep, S(d) does not come up.

    (c) Therefore S(r) exists as long as one is alive in or not in dreams but S(d)exists only when there is a dream. AND S(r) can be perceived by others while S(d) can only be "perceived" vaguely by S(r) only, nobody else otherwise.

    (d) S(r) cannot control S(d), and vice versa, EXCEPT one and only one moment when S(r) dies in a dream during sleep. Then both gone together WITHOUT knowing each other AND WITHOUT the right to ask why.

    (e) S(r) appears NOT EQUAL, AND NOT the same as S(d).

Now we come back to discuss what S(r) and S(d) might be so to speak.

    (1) S(r) is being recognized because of our sense of awareness of our consciousness. It appears to be crystal clear in existence.

    (2) S(d) appears more interesting.

    (a) Its recognization is possible under same pre-condition as that for S(r): being alive, but S(r)'s being alive NEVER guarantees S(d)'s appearance or recognized existence.

    (b) S(d) requires a dream with the living being. AND further and more mysterious is: S(d) is NOT summoned out by anyone's consciousness. Rather S(d)is FREE to come or go, sometimes being remembered by S(r) for "what S(d) has done ONLY in the dream", but more often, S(d) can be forgotten instantly, as soon as S(r) wakes up.

[BUT ?? Has S(r) existed during the sleep with or without S(d) in the dream??] S(d) NEVER needs to remember and record itself and its acts in all dreams, leaving behind only S(r) in joy or frustration after waking up.]

In other words, S(d) is like a naughty boy committing adventures or misadventures, but never bearing any responsibility or liability except when S(r) dies during sleep with S(d) in the dream. Otherwise the emotional ups or downs after S(d)'s "adventures", only S(r) is to bear (like a mother to feel happy or sorrowful for what her naughty boy has done)!

Judging from above discussions, we have reasonable ground to suspect that:-

    EITHER
    (a) S(d) is absolutely innocent as a "naughty boy", the same "naughty boy" in every dream;

    OR

    (b) all the S(d)s in every dream of S(r) are unrelated (i.e. NOT the same "naughty S(d)"). All these S(d)s are S(r)'s subconscious COSPLAYERS (similar to Japanese 動漫畫角色扮演)!
